It hurt that you were gone.

You were everything to me,

My breath,

My soul,

My heart.

In an instant, gone.

I lay there, stunned,

The night you left.

The sound of my screams

In my head

Drowning out my reality.

I was afraid.

Frozen, then tears came, finally –

Only as the shock wore off.

I didn’t sleep.

The phone began to ring,

Voices, coldly explaining the details,

Of your final destination.

Alone. I wept.

Sleep found me, curled up into a ball,

Hopeless and helpless,

Unable to fight the exhaustion

I slept.

The music started softly.

Stirring my soul.

Your smile, you were suddenly there.

A surprise party,

You always had something up your sleeve.

Magic surrounded your soul.
