I think that the differences are important, especially being older and dating older men in my range. Yes, a Dom can work to be what a sub needs, as is the same, vice-versa. What I believe to be the holdback - on both sides - is how as we age, we seem to welcome change less.

Kink relationships generally negotiate many aspects of a relationship, while searching, while dating, and then generally have a more formalized agreement by the time they decide to be in a relationship.

I believe the negotiation process gives a deeper insight into if you can work together to a common goal.

It's not foolproof. People still make decisions for all the wrong reasons.
